LimeChat - IRC Client App Reviews

Awesome!!

This app works great. It has a few minor issues, but dont all apps? Well this app works best for using irc chat, ive tried many apps and this defiantly works the best.

Excellent

This app is great for the user whom wishes to unleash their mobile device while using IRC. If a person doesnt know what IRC is and how to implement it, then try an app that requires no brains from the user. Read RFC 1459.

A good start. Missing some important features

I am a heavy chat user and there are some very basic features that are needed in chat clients for them to be functional. I decided to download LimeChat after Colloquy completely destroyed their IOS app in their last release and the do not seem interested in addressing the issues. The LimeChat interface is simple and easy to read and the time stamping feature is an important must have. The 2 functions that are missing are the ability to set audible alerts for channel or PM messaging and the ability to receive messages via IOS notification center when the app is running in the background. Messaging is needed for replies to PMs along with a notification when the app is going to shutdown due to the 10 min background limit that Apple imposes (with an option to hit the notification and automatically reset the timer for another 10 mins). Colloquy does this really well, but they messed the interface up in their latest release. On a positive note, I did contact the LimeChat developer and gave him my suggestions. He responded very quickly and seemed genuinely interested in my suggestions (asking questions). Take a look at the version release dates on the other chat clients and you will see that most of them are 1 or 2 years old! Not a good sign of a developer that is committed to their product long term. Hopefully the LimeChat developer will live up to expectations because I think that he has a solid baseline for a decent chat app.

What happened to it?

I had already bought this once to replace another irc app when the first one disappeared. Now that the first one has come back this one is gone and now I cant download it unless I pay for it again? Whats up with that?

Here is hoping...

Good start it but it looks like a lot of work still needs to be done. It is worth the price of admission none the less.

Good, Not Great Yet

* Hands down destroys the buggy new version of Colloquy in all but a few ways. * Copy and paste doesnt seem to work from chat window. Highly annoying. * You have to click+hold on nicks in chat and select paste username. No nick autocomplete. Prefer the way Colloquy implements this. * Needs swipe gesture to switch between channels / PMs * Wish it auto changed your nick to preferred nick once it is available like Colloquy. Its annoying to be nick_ upon peer reset.

Good app, but it missing something

This is a nice app, but it need colors in the text, the channel I use the mods has color text so people can see whet they said

Great

Totally blows other IRC apps out of the water. The design and options are intuitive, convenient, and useful. Although the price may be high, its worth it and is a good buy for an experienced user of IRC. New users may be a little confused, but an online IRC tutorial would clear up some of the questions a new user might have. Its a five-star app at the moment, but I would love to see colors implemented, possibly some basic scripting, and a better copy/paste system. Other than that, this app is money well spent.

Lol I thought I was ripped off

This is great just what I needed. I started to freak when I seen the server list and didnt see an add button. Between the word server and the arrow you can type in your server. I didnt know this right away. And I use to write scripts for mIRC. HA! I love it and Im planning to keep it. Thats for making such a great app. Keep up the good work.

Ok for chat, nothing else; overpriced

If you want to chat over IRC, them this app does just fine. If you want to do anything else, then the app is insufficient. Cut and paste is not so hot; you cant select what you want to cut. File transfers or even going to an fserve (ctcp)...not an option. For a $5 app, I would have expected a LOT more.

Bare bones. No help.

I have used full featured irc clients like mIRC. This product is bare bones and unable to connect. No help or explanation for fields and entering same info as my other irc products does not work. Hours lost. I installed irc999 and used it to figure out setup with useful messages. Better interface here.

No notifications

Without my phone being able to vibrate in my pocket and let me know someone has contacted me this app is almost useless for $5. I see some other people have mentioned this as well so hopefully this will be fixed soon and I can change my rating. Other than that its a pretty solid irc app.

Excellent

Sasl works all the time unlike other irc iOS apps. Use osx limechat as well. Quite pleased.

A GREAT client!

It has a nice, uncluttered GUI, nice alerting systen, and very very stable and light resource usage. Id recommend this client to anyone. J do wish it was updated a little more though! ^.^ Its very... Basic. It could use just a tad more features. =w=

Vintage IRC, modern flair

LimeChat provides a great IRC experience on iOS. Its great that the service is still given this attention to detail.

Totally worth the price

Good looking, lightweight irc client. Only one thats worth it on the App Store.

Not useful

I downloaded lime chat for irc chat at a w3c meeting. It was unreliable, working intermittently. I have tried to get it working properly and have not succeeded.

Theres room for improvement

Basically its a good app, but some important features are missing: 1. No Tab key or other way to select another nick. 2. No way to hide annoying join/quit etc messages. 3. No easy way to perform basic commands like /me

Good irc client

Great app, love the version for OS X so I dropped the 5$ for this one. Looks great with iOS7 and is pretty customizable. Nice animations/buttons/icon

Completely unusable on latest IOS

Do not waste your money.
